WOMEN IN POWER: WE DEMAND PARITY! - LEARN MORE
LET’S FIGHT FOR GENDER PARITY!
NOW!’s second official campaign has just been launched: from the 8th of March 2020 to the 8th of March 2021 we will focus on ensuring equal representation in elected political positions! We believe that the lack of representation in political positions is the root cause of most gender-related discrimination and a global problem that all countries share.
The campaign has been launched digitally on March 8th, 2020 and will be coupled by physical events throughout the year. The campaign is centered around three main actions:
- An online petition to all Parliaments - SIGN IT HERE - to create public pressure and push governments to pass ambitious legislation to push for gender parity in politics, such as by implementing gender alternate lists or other legislations based on the system in question!
- An incredibly powerful pledge from elected representatives at all levels of government, or formerly elected representatives, that are committing to work for gender parity in elected positions. By building a broad coalition to back such an important battle, NOW! intends to send a strong signal to the world that we will not stand down until politics is more diverse and representative. We aim to motivate millions - literally - of women across the planet to fight for a bigger share in the political space, and to make governments aware that what has been done so far is not enough.
- Finally, a social media campaign where we are looking for women rights advocates and users in general to record strong video messages explaining why they believe that there should be equal representation in power and spreading the noise through the hashtag #RunLikeAWoman!
A final note: we will work tirelessly throughout the year to increase the reach of the campaign and the number of politicians backing our demands. We will ensure that our campaign is not a simple “flame” on International Women’s Day, but it stays relevant and strong for at least 365 days. We are extremely committed to this battle, and we hope you are too.
