A WAVE OF FREEDOM FOR THE WORLD

Across the world, democracy is in decline. From authoritarian regimes cracking down on freedoms and rights in Hong Kong, to dictators preventing free elections in Venezuela and Belarus, the situation is deteriorating fast. No country alone has the leverage to oppose dictatorships and protect freedom. it’s time to dream bigger.
For democracy to be won, prominent world leaders must work together. That is why NOW!’s ‘Wave of Freedom’ campaign works for the creation of a “League of Democracies”: an international coalition of major democracies to coordinate responses and implement measures - such as economic sanctions - to support freedom fighters, and ultimately safeguard freedoms and democracy.
It will not be easy, but it is necessary. Those that love freedom and democracy, and do not want to see the dark cloud of authoritarianism spreading around the world, must stand together. Yesterday it was Tibet, today is Hong Kong and Belarus, and tomorrow it could be your country’s turn. Only by creating a Wave of Freedom that crosses borders and continents can we safeguard our future.

Karen Etherington signed 2020-10-25 20:48:38 +0100TOTAL support and thank you all so much – and how I wish for an “umbrella” approach to amplify all you do by enabling the many like-minded, globally active groups to platform each other, even just by name – Avaaz, Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, Global Justice Now, Reprieve, Stop Ecocide, so many more – all struggling to reach and widen public support for global governance over the whole spectrum of issues they represent.
Like Wikipedia it could be monitored through a link that makes sure you could all vet each other’s goals for inclusion, and comment on each other’s work but, crucially, you could all confirm each other’s contribution to limelighting our need for a global system of justice… -
