Green December - recap week 1
6 DEC 2020
The first week of Green December is almost over! Hundreds of activists took action during the first week of Green December, with people standing in front of government buildings in almost forty countries. Our participants are performing the individual actions every day across borders, from Canada to Chile, from the UK to Libya, from South Africa to Turkey, from Denmark to Burundi, and from the Philippines to New Zealand. And our climate work did not go unnoticed: check out this oped we published in the Independent on the need for the new US Administration to prioritize global cooperation, where Green December is mentioned!
Dozens of volunteers are continuing to work on Green December, by creating content, engaging with influencers, and creating partnerships. Thanks to our volunteers, Green December is officially supported by many organisations and businesses, including Ocean Unite, Earth Uprising, The Happy Broadcast, and Rockay. Below, you will be able to find all the actions for the second week of Green December, and we are so excited because these are very powerful actions to counter the climate crisis! Are you ready for… WEEK 2? Find all the details here!
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6TH: IT’S MOVIE NIGHT!
Tomorrow is the 6th day of Green December, and you are closed to complete your first week of individual action with hundreds of people across the world! Thank you. Let’s take this opportunity to relax while learning more about our beautiful planet.
It’s movie night! We will stream the documentary "David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet" all together at 2 pm UK Time (9 am New York Time, 5 pm Nairobi Time, 10 pm Taipei Time) :https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84550635635
Today is our first Meatless Monday! Meat consumption has a very negative impact on the planet. Stopping it, or even reducing it, can really change this.
On this Monday, have meatless meals and share your pictures, videos or recipes of these with us!
Cities can be at the forefront of the battle against climate change, by adopting new measures to be more sustainable.
Has your city already acted to stop the climate crisis? Spread some positive vibes today and tell us what is the best thing your city is doing for the climate!
Think global, act local. KM 0 food or slow food is a global philosophy that, given the current trend of fast food consumption, defends the local gastronomic culture and local products. Eating local has a positive impact on the environment as you are reducing your carbon footprint!
Today, share us with a meal that you have prepared using local, fresh and seasonal products!
The climate crisis could have stopped in 2015 when the Paris Agreement was ratified. However, countries are not respecting the global solution that they agreed on, and climate change is still a threat for our planet.
What were you doing in 2015 when climate change could have ended? Share a picture of yourself (it can also be with family and friends) and push the international community to respect this agreement.
Plants are considered a critical resource because of the many ways they support life on Earth. They release oxygen into the atmosphere, absorb carbon dioxide, provide habitat and food for wildlife and humans, and regulate the water cycle!
Let's help the environment today: we need more plants! Get yours: you can grow it, you can adopt it, you can buy it! You can even make your little holiday tree. Share with us a picture of your new little plant and ask others to do the same to help the environment.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, DECEMBER 12TH AND 13TH: IT’S A CAR-FREE WEEKEND!
Car pollution is having a huge impact on our environment, affecting everything from the size of the hole in the ozone layer to the health and wellbeing of the general public, with vehicle air pollution contributing to the rise in individuals suffering from acute respiratory conditions around the world.
This weekend, say no to cars and find other ways to go around your city! You can walk, bike, roll, and run to your destination rather than using a car.
Remember: together, united, we cannot be defeated!
All the best,
Andrea & Colombe, for NOW!
