Virtual Town Hall | Dare to remember: Tiananmen Massacre 32nd anniversary
32 years on, Tiananmen is still a taboo in China. 32 years on, activists in China and overseas gather to commemorate those who lost their lives fighting for freedom and democracy in China.
Join our Virtual Town Hall on June 4 and hear from
- Wang Chaohua, a student leader in Tiananmen Square Protest. Wang is a member of the standing committee of the Beijing Autonomous Association of College Students in 1989. She was one of the student representatives to have a dialogue with the CCP government in May.
Wang's name was put on the Chinese government's "21 Most Wanted Beijing Student Leaders" list. She fled to the US via Hong Kong under "Operation Yellow Bird", a secret operation to help hundreds of dissidents flee the mainland.
- Sheng Xue, a poet, journalist, and human rights activist who organized the Tiananmen commemoration every year in Toronto, Canada. Sheng Xue grew up in Beijing, China. She moved to Canada soon after the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989. She has been barred from going back to China due to her activism.
